Just a few years removed from playing on the same fields she now stands in the coach’s box, Mississippi Delta Community College Head Softball Coach Olivia Burns is having growing pains along with her young team.
“I’m learning as a coach to be positive with the girls and push them to be as good as I know they can be,” Coach Burns said. “It’s been a rough start but the girls show improvement every game and the freshman are still learning to adapt to how fast-paced the game is in college. They are still trying to find that bond between each other to stick together and once they find that the team will develop a lot quicker.”
The Lady Trojans have a win but the losses are double-digit with conference play now beginning. A trip to the Gulf Coast last weekend put two more losses on the books. This weekend, Pearl River Community College comes to Moorhead for a Saturday double-header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
A quick look at the MACCC standings, Northwest has a 2-0 conference record and 13-1 overall. Jones College, East Central, Mississippi Gulf Coast and East Mississippi all have 2-0 conference records as well.
