Following a season-ending playoff loss, a young Indianola Academy baseball team is hoping to carry lessons learned into the future.
Playing last Friday in Oxford, the Colonels moved their final season record to a 13-13 mark after dropping a 12-0 decision to Kirk Academy of Grenada.
Swept in two games during this best-of-three series, the Colonels were limited to only a Walker Perkins single in this latest contest by the Raiders’ pitcher, a University of Southern Mississippi commit.
Wearing his IA uniform for the final time in this contest was Conner Roncali, who was the only senior on this season’s 2023 Colonels team.
On the upside, the Colonels’ young squad absorbed much experience through the course of its 26-game season.
This potential asset prompted IA Head Coach Scooter Prince to note that “We are hoping to take the good things we did into the next year and relive how it felt to play well. We had a seven- or eight-game win streak going at one time before the season kind of went downhill.”
“Once we learn that we have to come out and play hard for seven innings in every game, the kids could have a lot of the fun that success would bring to them”, he continued. “I am looking forward to seeing that happen.”
