The second season, also known as the playoffs, has arrived for the Indianola Academy basketball teams.
Playing at Lee Academy in Clarksdale, last Thursday night the Lady Colonels took their 7-18 record into their opening game of the District 1-4A Tournament.
Taking the court as the district number five seed, the Lady Colonels’ opponent was the host Lee Academy Fillies, who entered the tournament as the number four seed.
Should the IA girls have claimed a victory in this game, they will play top-seeded Kirk Academy of Grenada today at 6:30 p.m.
The district tournament championship games will occur Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Win or lose today’s game, a victory over Lee Academy in Thursday night’s opener will assure the Lady Colonels of a berth in next week’s North State 4A Tournament.
Scheduled to begin next Monday, that tournament will be hosted by Kirk Academy.
Meanwhile, the 5-16 Colonels also opened the playoff season Thursday night in Clarksdale when they took the court against Kirk Academy.
The Colonels entered the tournament as the number four seed while the Raiders from Grenada came into postseason play as the number five seed.
An IA victory Thursday night would send the Colonels back to Lee Academy tonight where they will take on the host, and top-seeded, Colts at 7:30 p.m.
Like the Lady Colonels, a victory last night against Kirk Academy would also cement the Colonels a berth in next week’s North State 4A Tournament.
