With the soccer season now in the past, basketball season comes to the athletic forefront at Indianola Academy.
And for the 2024-25 version of the Lady Colonels, their season began this past Tuesday night with a visit to Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington.
Competing against a strong squad of Lady Trojans, the IA girls fell by a 44-17 margin.
Additional basketball action was had Thursday night when IA Head Coach Allen Hill’s squad traveled to Deer Creek School in Arcola.
Results of that night’s play were unavailable at press time.
Continuing through their 21-game schedule, next Tuesday will find the Lady Colonels at Carroll Academy for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
Next Thursday will then find the Lady Colonels playing their first home game of the season. It will be Washington School of Greenville coming to the IA gym for that 6 p.m. matchup.
The Lady Colonels, on a mission to improve on the 7-19 record earned last season, have at their disposal three returning starters gracing the court.
A pair of guards, Jordan Ferrell and Maggie Jenkins, will join forward Julia Davis in bringing experience to the basketball court.
Other faces Coach Hill expects to make an impact on the court for IA this season include guards Sarah Hendon, Nyla Thomas and Amy Van.
At the forward position, Kelly Arrington, Brenleigh Hunt and Ryle Kate Reed are hoping to see quality playing time.
Down low at the center position, the Lady Colonels have the services of Meri Addison Donahue available.
As for their district competition, Coach Hill expects last year’s 4A state champion Kirk Academy of Grenada to join Marshall Academy of Holly Springs and North Delta School of Batesville in fielding the stronger teams in IA’s District 1-4A lineup.
The veteran coach also feels those teams will be a force in the entire North 4A classification.
