For the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels fastpitch softball team earned their first District 1-4A victory of the young season this past Tuesday evening at Chism Park.
Claiming a 15-12 win over visiting Kirk Academy of Grenada, the IA squad improved their record to a 5-6, 1-2 record with the victory.
With that recent decision getting them back into the win column, the Lady Colonels will attempt to make it two in a row next Monday.
Taking a trip to Arcola to take on a good Deer Creek School squad at 6:30 p.m., this non-district clash will precede a visit by Marshall Academy of Holly Springs.
Playing the defending 4A State Champion Lady Patriots next Tuesday at Chism Park, the Lady Colonels are hoping to avenge the 15-0 district loss suffered this past Monday.
Game time is to be announced.
In their recent victory over Kirk Academy, the Lady Colonels battled back from a 9-8 deficit to claim the game.
Batting in their half of the sixth inning, the IA bats came alive, sending 12 batters to the plate en route to posting seven runs on the scoreboard.
With a 15-9 lead in hand, the Lady Colonels then staved off a potential rally by the Kirk Academy squad, limiting the Lady Raiders to three runs which enabled IA to put a three-run victory into the books.
In this slugfest, while Kirk Academy outhit the Lady Colonels by a 19-11 margin, the IA hitters made their hits drive in the most runs.
When all was said and done, each member of the IA line-up would drive at least one run across the plate.
Pacing the IA hitting attack with a pair of singles apiece were Kelly Arrington, Presley Bradshaw and Caitlyn Smith.
Also drilling a timely double in this game was Julia Davis.
In the pitcher’s circle, Meri Addyson Donahue picked up the win as her six innings of work scattered 15 Kirk Academy hits. The righthander struck out one batter and walked four others.
Meadow Smith would get the save after her one inning in the circle yielded four hits with one walk and one strikeout.
