Plowing through a schedule top-heavy with District 1-4A games, the Indianola Academy basketball teams take a long road trip to Holly Springs tonight.
Upon arrival at Marshall Academy, a 6 p.m. tipoff for the Lady Colonels is on tap for this district clash with the boys game to follow immediately thereafter.
However, most recently Thursday night the pair of IA squads played host to Central Holmes Christian School of Lexington in a non-district match-up.
While game results were unavailable at press-time, the Lady Colonels carried an 8-7-13, 1-4 record into that game while the Colonels owned a 3-13, 1-4 won-loss mark.
Additional upcoming action finds IA returning to district competition next Tuesday when Lee Academy of Clarksdale visits the Indianola Academy gymnasium.
The night’s play begins with the girls tipping off at 6 p.m.
In the most recent district basketball action, this past Tuesday saw North Delta School of Batesville visit IA and earn a pair of victories.
The night ended with a hard-fought boys’ game which saw the Colonels drop a 42-35 decision to the Green Wave. The IA loss was absorbed despite a 19-point effort from EJ Hall.
In girls’ action, the Lady Colonels fell by a 41-19 margin to a strong North Delta School squad.
Meanwhile, last Friday the IA girls added a digit to their win column by claiming a 43-29 home-court non-district win over St. Aloysius High of Vicksburg.
The Lady Colonels benefited from the double-digit scoring of two players to help fuel this victory.
While Maggie Jenkins bucketed a team-high 18 points in the game, Arianna Allen also made her presence known with a 15-point outing.
In boys’ action against the visiting Flames, Tyler Jackson’s nine-point game led the Colonels’ scoring during their 41-30 loss.
Another non-district night of play occurred last Thursday, and the Colonels claimed a 43-23 decision over the visiting Rebels of Carroll Academy.
Jackson’s 11-point performance again led the IA scoring while Kerrik Robinson finished close behind by posting 10 points on the scoreboard.
The Lady Colonels were not as fortunate against their Carroll Academy competition as they fell by a 33-23 score to the Lady Rebels.
