The North Sunflower Academy Lady Rebels dropped two games this week – an 11-1 road loss Monday to Marvell Academy in Arkansas and a home 11-3 loss to Lee Academy (Arkansas) on Tuesday. The B team tied both teams with identical 6-6 scores.
On Monday, the Lady Rebels put in five tough innings against Marvell who put up one run in the first, two in the second and then eight in the fourth. NSA managed their run in the top of the fifth and final inning. The Lady Rebels managed four hits in 17 at bats drawing one walk and striking out four times. Junior Elizabeth Head scored the lone run on the RBI from senior Sterlynn Luna. Senior Meridyth Scallion was on the mound, throwing 85 pitches and giving up seven hits, 11 runs (all earned) while collecting one strikeout and walking four.
In Tuesday’s home tilt, the Lady Rebels scored first in the second inning but Lee Academy took the lead back scoring two runs in the second. NSA would add two more in the top of the third but Lee Academy put up seven runs in the bottom of the third and added two more in the bottom of the fourth.
Overall, the Lady Rebels collected 11 hits on 21 at bats, drew one walk and only had one strikeout. Sixth-grader Addy DeBower, eighth-grader Rivers Couey, junior Elizabeth Head and eighth-grader Lanbri Clark each had two hits. Clark had two RBIs while junior Paisley Grisham picked up the other RBI. Scallion again was on the mound, throwing 103 pitches with 50 being strikes. She gave up eight hits, 11 runs (all earned) and eight walks while striking out two.
At press time, the Lady Rebels are waiting for all the District Games to be completed to see how the North Half Tournament bracket falls together this weekend.
