MDCC Lady Trojans Head Coach Tre Hobbs isn’t a fan of moral victories. He’s looking for the real ones that put you atop the standings in your league and conference. But last Saturday when the #4 team in the MACCC came to town, the Lady Trojans almost pulled out a game one win. Almost.
MDCC took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning putting up two runs. East Central added one in the top of the fifth. That was answered by the Lady Trojans who then held a 3-1 lead. But in the top of the sixth, East Central put up four more while keeping the Lady Trojans off the scoreboard to claim the final 5-3 game one win. Freshman Takiya Shaw singled in the first run and sophomore MarQueshia Starks hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Carlie Vannucci was on the mound and allowed only five hits, five runs (two earned), striking out one and walking two.
In game two, the Lady Trojans gave up seven runs in the top of the second and four more in the top of the fifth but couldn’t find their offense in the 11-0 loss. East Central piled on 15 hits while only giving up two to MDCC.
The next action for the Lady Trojans is Saturday, April 13, when they travel to Hinds. They then travel to Clarksdale to take on Coahoma on Monday, April 15, followed by a road game on Wednesday, April 17, at Itawamba followed by a road game at Jones College on Friday, April 19.
