A rough trip to Pearl River Community College saw the MDCC Lady Trojans’ basketball win streak stopped at three. PRCC took a 67-36 home win over MDCC this past Monday.
The team closed out the regular season hosting Coahoma Community College on Thursday but press time did not allow coverage of the game. Pearl River (25-3 overall and 12-1 MACCC) came out hot and took the first quarter, 15-7. But MDCC, 16-9 overall and 6-7 in the MACCC, found a groove and outscored the Lady Wildcats 18-13 and were only down three at the half. But the Lady Wildcats’ defense, combined with cold shooting by the Lady Trojans, gave PRCC the big win as MDCC could only manage five and six points respectively in the third and fourth quarters. PRCC piled on 23 and 16 in those same two quarters.
The Lady Trojans were forced into 23 turnovers and only visited the free throw line seven times hitting three for 43%. MDCC attempted 45 field goals, hitting 15 for 33% and hit 3-of-6 from the 3-point arc for 50%. PRCC out-rebounded MDCC 50 to 30. Sophomore Cha’Myrean Ellis was the only
Lady Trojan in double figures with 10 points.
PRCC and Mississippi Gulf Coast are tied for first place in the MACCC, each holding 12-1 conference records at press time with one conference game left. Pearl River is also nationally ranked at #11. MDCC sits in sixth place at 6-7, tied with East and Meridian.
The playoff schedule for the MACCC will be determined once all conference play is conducted. Check out MDCCTrojans.com for more information.
