The baseball playoffs are looming just ahead, and the Indianola Academy Colonels have a specific goal in mind.
Owning a 12-7, 6-3 record, the Colonels are attempting to secure, at the least, the number two seeding in District 2-4A play prior to playoff competition. That postseason play is slated to begin the week of April 24.
Unfortunately, achieving that postseason goal did receive a temporary setback Tuesday evening when the Colonels lost to visiting Winona Christian School by a 12-8 margin.
However, obtaining their district’s two seed in the playoffs can come closer to being put to rest today. That rest will be realized should the Colonels earn a pair of wins in their upcoming series-completing double header.
Occurring at Winona Christian School, first pitch of this district twinbill against the Stars is set to be thrown at 4 p.m.
Once that final district game with Winona Christian School is behind them, the Colonels step back outside district play the balance of the season, beginning with next Monday’s visit to Greenville High School. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Senior Night will then be celebrated next Tuesday when Clarksdale High comes to the IA field for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
In the Colonels’ recent 12-8 loss to Winona Christian School, walks and errors plagued the IA effort in this contest.
The Stars would take over a 3-3 game in the fourth inning by plating five runs.
Despite the Colonels’ rallying back in the bottom of the fifth frame with five runs of their own, the Winona club scored what proved to be the winning run in their half of that same inning.
Leading IA’s six-hit attack in this game was senior Conner Roncali with a triple and a single.
Also contributing in a big way was Patrick Davis as the seventh-grade catcher drilled a double and two singles against the Stars’ pitching staff.
