The wait for the 2024 Gentry High Rams football season to begin is now almost over.
For at 7 p.m. Saturday on their own field, the Rams will take on the Greenwood High School Bulldogs in a non-regional season-opener.
In Head Coach Derrick Farrow’s debut tomorrow night, the Rams will take their first step toward bettering the 6-5 record earned last season.
That winning record was narrowed last season with the Rams losing in the first round of the playoffs to eventual state champion West Point High.
Despite the loss, the game represented the third consecutive year in which the Rams have reached postseason play.
Meanwhile, the Greenwood High Bulldogs will arrive in Indianola harboring their own agenda for improvement.
Members of Region 3-4A, the Bulldogs will not want to be a part of another 1-9 campaign like they suffered through last season.
Additional motivation for the Bulldogs comes from the fact that it has been five years since a Greenwood High football team has posted a winning record.
In last year’s meeting between these two schools, the Region 2-5A Rams prevailed by a 37-6 score.
That Gentry High victory was the third consecutive year in which the Rams have defeated the Bulldogs.
However, historically Greenwood High still owns a 22-9 series advantage over Gentry High football teams.
