The Gentry High Rams baseball team is on a mission to get back into the win column.
After opening the 2024 season with consecutive victories, this past week’s action resulted in a step back by way of a trio of losses.
The most damaging of those losses occurred last Tuesday night in Lexington. That night’s play saw the 2-3, 0-2 Rams drop a pair of Region 2-5A games (15-5 and 13-8) to Holmes County Central High School.
These losses also came on the heels of last Monday’s 13-3 decision to West Bolivar High School in Rosedale.
On a positive note, the Rams began this past week’s play with an 11-10 home-field victory last Thursday over Leland High School.
However, next Tuesday will offer the Rams the opportunity to pick up another much-needed win with a non-regional trip to Thomas Edwards High in Ruleville.
This third consecutive road trip’s clash with the cross-county foe Tigers is set to begin at 4 p.m.
Spring Break then brings a pause to the baseball season as it will be March 18 before the Rams will see further action.
As for the Rams’ other recent play, in Monday night’s loss to West Bolivar High School, Tyler Liddell paced the Rams’ offensive effort. His night at the plate concluded with his contributing a pair of RBIs produced by his crushing a double.
Against Leland High School, in this high scoring game it was pitcher Jakori Hodges picking up the win. His performance included striking out six Cubs over the course of his time on the mound.
At the plate, the Rams were led by Liddell’s three hit, six RBI day.
Liddell would drill a pair of doubles and a single off the Leland High pitching staff.
Also slapping a pair of singles apiece for the Rams in this game were Jacorvin Little and Kaiheem Saulsberry.
