For the Gentry High Rams baseball team, earning a postseason playoff berth is priority one.
Now three games into the balance of a 13-game run of Region 2-5A competition, the Rams got off to a slow start toward their goal this past Tuesday against Greenville High School.
Playing on their home field, the Rams suffered a 20-7 loss to the Hornets to begin their extended schedule of regional contests.
The loss moved the Rams’ record to a 2-5, 0-3 mark.
Plagued by run-plating walks issued to Greenville High batters, it was a day described by Gentry Head Coach Eddie Ivory as “A bad day on the mound.”
Hoping to rebound from that loss, additional action against the Greenville squad occurred Thursday evening. However, the results of that double-header road trip were unavailable at press time.
As for future Gentry High action, next Tuesday will find the Rams traveling to Cleveland Central High for another regional double-header.
The first pitch of that day’s play is scheduled to be thrown at 4 p.m.
Next Thursday will then find the Rams back on their home field as they will host Holmes County Central High School.
This regional single game against the school from Lexington is set to begin at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, this past Monday the Rams’ final non-regional game of the season took place on their home field.
Unfortunately, on that day the Rams fell by a 14-9 margin to West Bolivar High School from Rosedale.
