It’s a week of highway running for the Trojan baseball team at Mississippi Delta Community College. This past Wednesday, the Trojans traveled to Clarksdale to take on the Tigers of Coahoma County Community College. The Trojans, 10-22-1 overall and 6-11 in the MACCC, dropped game one, 6-5. The Trojans held an early 4-1 lead through four innings and only managed one more run in the seventh. The Tigers, 4-30 overall and 1-17 in the MACCC, picked up three in the bottom of the sixth and eight to tie the game in each inning. The Tigers picked up a run in the bottom of the ninth to take the win.
The Trojans picked up five runs on seven hits while giving up six runs on 12 hits. Rusty Bolden was 2-for-3 at the plate with one run while both Wes Warnock and Dylan Denby went 2-for-4 at the plate. Warnock had one run and one RBI. Denby had one run. Michael Simien pitched seven innings giving up eight hits, four runs – all earned – but struck out five while walking none. Jacob Brooks came in pitching one and one-third innings giving up four hits, two runs – one earned – and struck out none.
The Trojans travel to Raymond tomorrow to take on Hinds Community College in a 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. double-header. They then travel to Itawamba Community College on Tuesday, April 18 to take on the Indians in a 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. double-header.
Looking at the MACCC standings, Jones College and East Central are tied for first with a 14-2 conference record for each. Jones is 29-7 overall and East Central is 24-13. Pearl River has a 15-5 MACCC record and is 34-8 overall. Meridian has a 12-4 MACCC notch and 26-8 overall. Itawamba is 11-5 in conference and 24-8 overall.
The national rankings have Pearl River at #4, Meridian at #5, Jones at #7 and Northeast at #19.
