Spring hasn’t sprung for the MDCC Trojan baseball team. Warm weather, cold weather, stop, start – everything seems to be out of sync. Losing to Pearl River last Sunday at home, 17-3 and 5-2 and then hosting Northwest and dropping both games, 3-2 and 4-1, have the Trojans sitting at 6-16 overall and winless in the MACCC at 0-8. Most games have been close including the last three.
The team hits the road on Saturday, March 23 to take on Southwest Community College with a double-header starting at 2:00 p.m. They then host Copiah Lincoln on Friday, March 29 with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch at the Jimmy Bellipanni Baseball Complex.
The Trojans have scored 108 runs in 22 games and have a team batting average of .289 and have seven home runs. Sophomore Foster Mitchell is leading the team at the plate hitting .408 with 11 RBIs, one triple, eight doubles and 20 singles. Freshman Cade Oswalt is hitting .373 but is tied with freshman Drew Jarrell with 13 RBIs to lead the team. Jarrell has two home runs as does freshman John Barajas who is hitting .271. Freshman Thomas Kuhn has a nice batting average of .354 with 11 RBIs, 13 runs scored and 17 singles. The team has committed 25 errors on the defensive side leading to a slew of “could have won” games in the 12 game losing skid.
