Dear Editor:
One spark can start a forest fire and destroy an entire community. One shot can start a war. One bad decision can destroy a town. Therefore, a town needs competent leaders – ones that do not get excited and create other problems in the process. Case in point – the Mayor and Aldermen two board meetings ago should have consulted with the attorney before they put on the agenda to discuss terminating or suspending the policeman.
Now he can file a charge of wrongful suspension without pay. The investigation is still in process. Who will pay for the mistake? Taxpayers! Only one alderman had the courage to vote correctly. Wait until the full truth is known. No one takes pride in tragedy, but we should not forget other families are impacted. They deserve justice also.
We should not send policemen into a hostile environment without proper backup. We the people are to blame also. We put people in positions knowing they have no knowledge of the task. It doesn't matter if you were classmates or you played ball on the same team, etc. Select someone you know will perform well.
The policeman in question has good rapport among the people he served. He has a young son anyone would be proud of. You should have him on Good Morning America. He would make you proud. What a great child.
Be patient and allow the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to talk to all of the daddies involved and get the complete story.
Pray for our town.
