Indianola Academy announced this week the appointment of Mr. Gregg E. Thompson as the new head of school.
With a robust 43-year career in independent school education, Thompson brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the community, a release from the school said this week.
His tenure in education has been marked by his roles as a teacher, academic leader, principal and head of school, showcasing his dedication and commitment to fostering educational excellence, the release said.
“Thompson's career is distinguished by his servant leadership, mission-driven focus and strategic innovation in school administration, the release continued. “His recent accomplishments as head of school at Lippo Village Campus Senior School and director of strategic innovation at Sekolah Pelita Harapan in Lippo Village, Indonesia, have been noteworthy. Under his leadership, the school witnessed a reversal in declining enrollment trends, initiated and led the formation of the SPH Alumni Association, and saw successful IB re-certification and ACSI/WASC re-accreditation.”
Prior to his international tenure Thompson served as the head of school at First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Georgia from 1997 to 2019.
“His leadership was transformative, elevating the institution to a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, achieving significant academic, arts and athletic program successes, and leading strategic planning that resulted in substantial facility improvements and the establishment of a robust endowment program,” the release from IA said. “Mr. Thompson's early career in education included roles as upper school principal and assistant headmaster at Westminster Preparatory School in Augusta, Georgia and as a mathematics & computer instructor at Wheaton Academy in West Chicago, Illinois.”
His educational background includes a master’s in educational leadership K-12 administration from Reformed Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Wheaton College.
