Tru’Vante Johnson, a 17-year-old junior at Thomas E. Edwards, Sr. High School (TEHS), has made himself a “standout” among the crowd.
He recently scored a whopping 28 on the ACT.
In school, he is what you would call an academic achiever.
Tru’Vante is a consistent Superintendent Scholar.
He is an avid member of Chick-fil-A Leader Academy. And he was TEHS’s December Student of the Month.
“I’m proud and excited for my son. I have always felt that way about him. He is a smart, appreciative, and loving son. I admire him for his success in school. I love him so much and I am so honored to be his mother,” raved his mother, Barbara Johnson.
Since his freshmen year, Tru’Vante has had the highest average in lots of his classes.
If respectful, honorable, intelligent, friendly and well-behaved were a person, Tru’Vante would be that person. He is a modest young man who deems himself a life-long learner.
“While I’m proud of the grades I’m getting, I feel like there’s a lot of room for improvement. I try so hard academically because I love learning new things,” he said humbly.
Tru’Vante understands that excelling academically can, and will, benefit him in his future aspirations and grant a life of more and abundance for himself, his family, and even his community.
“I want to eventually find a promising career in STEM,” he shared.
Barbara could not be any prouder of Tru’Vante; she and his father Truman hold him to a high standard because he has shown them repeatedly that he is more than capable of accomplishing the inevitable.
“I tell him not to worry about what others are doing, to keep his mind focused on his grades and academics. I urge my son to not fall under peer pressure and to make good choices. I advise him to keep doing what he’s doing and to not let anything or anyone come between him and his success in life,” she said with a smile.
Barbara knows the pressures that children and teenagers deal with nowadays: the desire to fit in, impress, stay up to date with the latest social media trends, videos and so on.
In the face of it all, she encourages him to remain positive, to put his best foot forward daily, and to always do what he knows is right regardless of what is going on around him.
Tru’Vante is setting a standard that will hopefully be mimicked by other young men in the Delta, especially Sunflower County.
With the full support of his parents, family, schools, and community, he will be an outstanding citizen who makes all who cross his path proud.
