A Mississippi Delta Community College student is being treated in a Jackson hospital for injuries he suffered Thursday from a shooting at a dormitory on the Moorhead campus.
The college posted to its website that the shooting occurred at about 3:30 p.m. at the Edwards-Stonestreet Men’s Residence Hall.
“A male student has been airlifted to UMMC (University of Mississippi Medical Center) in Jackson and is in stable condition,” the statement said. “A suspect has been apprehended by law enforcement. The investigation is ongoing and could lead to additional arrests.”
The statement did not identify the victim or the person who had been arrested. It also did not say whether the suspect is a student as well.
Additional information was not immediately available.
The college’s statement said the Moorhead campus would remain on lockdown at least until the end of the semester, Dec. 13. There will be checkpoints maintained at all entrances to the campus, the statement said.
