This week’s Indianola Board of Aldermen meeting revealed a concerning issue regarding the city's finances.
During the meeting, it was brought to light that the city had not requested reimbursement for paving multiple streets, despite having $1 million available for the project.
Indianola City Engineer Ron Cassada provided some insight into where the city lawmakers stood, stating, "Oddly enough, the project is still open due to the change order that we did. And the last change order is the concrete road, and the contractors are back working on Slim Street. They did some paving down there. They’ve got a little bit more to pave, and then the job will be completely finished. So, I think we can clean this up."
Ward 1 Alderman Gary Fratesi expressed concern over the situation, stating, "We're waiting on the million to come in, so apparently, we're not missing it. We need to use it to buy some new police cars."
However, Ward 4 Alderman Marvin Elder emphasized the need for action, stating, “We are going to have to get on top of this because the citizens are going to be looking at us. There's $1 million, that’s just like floating money out there."
Mayor Ken Featherstone acknowledged the issue and pledged to take action, saying, "Now that I am aware of it, we can. I wasn't aware of it before."
