Good Mornin’! Good Mornin’!
Another school shooting. An elementary school. There’s no explanation. The anti-gun folks will bang their drum to abolish or severely limit gun ownership. I pray for the families that were ripped up and shredded with grief and pain. Seriously, not just “thoughts and prayers” for these folks. I cannot imagine their situation. I don’t want to make light of it. With our youngest daughter graduating high school there was more than one sigh of relief. Forty years ago, we prayed we didn’t flunk out and at least made a high enough ACT to get into Moorhead. But these days the onslaught of COVID, school shootings and the strange things some schools think they need to teach are in the forefront.
I’m happy she’s out. I’m happy she graduated with perseverance. I’m happy she didn’t have to put into place the “active shooter” training that’s been ingrained in her throughout her school career thus far. I asked her throughout her school career the “what if?” questions and tried to give her more skills to keep her safe. A friend of mine makes body armor and bulletproof furniture and shields and car parts in Texas. He’s a former Marine. When I first heard about it, I thought it was a little bit crazy. I don’t think it is anymore. I don’t want to make my house a fortress but I’d like to see our schools put up protection of some sort and continue working to keep our children safe while educating them.
I’d really like to see private and public schools employ former military folks to provide security. I do believe some of these crazy folks with guns would be deterred knowing there are military folks standing in front of our children. That may lessen the insanity but then where do we stop?
Do we post former Army Rangers at each and every mall? Put a few Navy guys around the sidelines at sporting events. Seal Team Six at the Double Quick? Not a bad idea on the surface. I don’t know how to fix this problem. I guess the problem is that evil will always be evil and find a way to prevail here and there. We just need more good folks to step in the gap. I’m not against anyone owning a gun but please get some training. My dad taught me lessons from my youth and I want to learn more. I don’t have a carry permit but I need to get one. Not so I can carry but so I’m more educated and can understand what to do in certain situations. There’s nothing wrong with more folks knowing the right thing to do than not.
Perhaps the folks that want gun control should just start advocating for everyone to be trained with a weapon. Not everyone would have to use one but it’d be nice if you knew should you ever be put in that situation. The more you know, the better off everyone is.
