Indianola is one step closer to beefing up its police vehicle fleet.
The city board voted on Monday night to free up around $261,000 to allow for the purchase of a half dozen vehicles, including four Dodge Durangos and two trucks.
“Police vehicles are No. 1, streets are No. 2,” Ward 1 Alderman Gary Fratesi declared Monday night at the city board meeting when discussing the city’s priorities.
The city had previously committed to buying a full dozen vehicles.
A $400,000 grant announced in April by Rep. Otis Anthony put the city on a faster track to reach that goal.
“Please keep in mind that we have a warranty,” Police Chief Ronald Sampson said, ”We won’t have to spend all this money.”
According to the discussion, it appears the vendor will be Kirk Auto.
The board voted unanimously in favor of the motion to proceed with the buy.
