A Greenville man is being held at the Sunflower County Jail on multiple charges related to last Thursday afternoon’s shooting on the campus of Mississippi Delta Community College. Karlito Griggs, who was apparently enrolled at the college as a student, was in custody by 5:30 p.m. last Thursday night, according to MDCC Officer Jerry Pate, after allegedly shooting a male student in the face at the Edwards-Stonestreet Men’s Residence Hall. MDCC campus police were alerted to the shooting at around 3:30 p.m.., according to a release from MDCC. Griggs is currently charged with aggravated assault, felony fleeing and possession of a firearm on school grounds. Pate said that more arrests may be made in the coming days. Aside from MDCC's police department, Pate said that the Sunflower County Sheriff's Department, the Moorhead Police Department, the Indianola Police Department, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security assisted in the investigation and arrest. The male student victim was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and is listed in stable condition, the release said. “The investigation is ongoing and could lead to additional arrests,” the release said. “The Mississippi Delta Community College Moorhead campus is on lockdown until the end of the semester, with checkpoints placed at all entrances. More information will be released as updates occur.”
