Mental Health Madness, also known as MHM, is a wellness fair cultivated by a local high school student, Tyren Boyd. He was awarded seed grant money from Teen Health Mississippi to do something meaningful to support his peers within his community, and he didn’t take the task lightly. He is a passionate mental health advocate because he cares about the well-being of his peers and he doesn’t think mental health is taken seriously enough. Tyren says, “Mental health is a taboo topic in the African American community and there needs to be more awareness around it because every day people young and old are dying due to this illness.”
Tyren invited vendors from all over Mississippi that serve underserved communities such as his. He had over twenty vendors in attendance including Higher Purpose Co., Delta Health Center, Sunflower-Humphreys Counties Progess Inc., and many more notable community-oriented organizations. He also had Chick-fil-A, Gee’s Snow Cream, Mizizi’s 360 Booth, and others. He wanted this event to be as interactive as possible and it’s safe to say, Tyren accomplished his goal.
His admiration for the standard God has set for us fuels his mission in philanthropy, advocacy, youth development, and policy innovation.
