County officials are marshaling state resources in an intense effort to reopen classes on schedule following the holidays for students attending Moorhead Middle School, which was destroyed by fire last Friday. Local, state and federal fire investigators have ruled out foul play as the cause of the fire. The two-story structure was built in 1925.

It’s now official — the long-awaited and much tested Sunflower County E-911 emergency response system is now in operation.

Bids will be opened soon on a package of $5.4 million renovation and expansion projects at Indianola Public Schools that will provide classrooms, laboratories, athletic facilities and renovations throughout the city’s five schools.

Santa even visits firemen. Santa Claus gave Indianola Fire Chief Ford Williams a new fire dog, Sparky. The six-week old Dalmatian replaces Snoopy Dink who was killed by a car last year.

Every day we read of another facet of our lives that will be touched by the energy crisis. This week brought bad news for scotch whiskey drinkers. The shortage of heating fuel has forced Scottish distillers to cut production.

Dr. W.E. Ellis of Indianola has been appointed to serve as coordinator for this area for the 51st Annual Southern Educational Congress of Optometry.
