Public Works Director Elvis Pernell has contacted and met with a contractor about the ongoing situation with the pipe drainage near South Sunflower County Hospital.
The pipe behind Double Quick on Catchings Avenue, may be 20 feet deep, Pernell told the Indianola board of aldermen last Thursday night, and needs to be replaced.
He said that the contractor should have a general estimate of how much it may cost to dig up the pipe to replace the sewer.
This incident is not due to discharge in the line although it may become an issue in the future because everything is getting mixed. After sewage builds up so far, it may begin to cause grease build up in the storm drain.
The hospital did call Upchurch Plumbing and that contractor has attempted, Pernell said, to do all that they can to help fix the issue. Restaurants in the area are reminded that they are to be cleaning their grease traps monthly.
Restaurants should keep these reports on file, Pernell said.
Also, during the board meeting last Thursday, the board approved the transfer of money from the Modernization Use Tax Funds for $265,761.93. Gardner Engineering was approved for $7,737.33 which is for the Seymour and Hampton Street improvements project. Double S Construction was approved for $183,849.60 which is toward the Seymour and Hampton Street improvements project. Double S Construction was approved for $74,175.00, which is for intersection repairs at Garrard Avenue and Roosevelt Street.
