A busy week of basketball action is just ahead for the Gentry High Rams and Lady Rams.
Making the upcoming week even better is the fact that both games will be played on the Gentry High home-court.
Actually, this pair of games is a continuation of a seven game run of home dates the 3-0 Rams and the 2-1 Lady Rams are enjoying.
While this Friday will bring the Tigers of Thomas Edwards High of Ruleville to town, next Tuesday the Gentry squads will face off against Holmes County High of Lexington.
The girls’ game will tip off at 6 p.m. each night with the boys to play immediately thereafter.
In their most recent action Tuesday night against visiting Cleveland Central High School, both Gentry teams claimed a victory.
While the Lady Rams claimed a 43-33 win over the Lady Wolves, the Rams dispatched the Cleveland boys’ team by a 60-46 margin.
The Rams scoring effort was led by Chris Minton’s 21 points dropped through the basket.
Also reaching double digit scoring status for the Rams this night was LaDerrius Love, who posted 14 points on the scoreboard.
Meanwhile, last Saturday at Pontotoc High School the Rams earned a hard-fought 62-58 decision over Shannon High School.
Earlier that morning, the Lady Rams dropped a 36-32 overtime decision to Mooreville High School.
In the Rams’ victory, vengeance of sorts played out as it was Shannon High School which ended Gentry High’s season last year in the 4A state playoffs.
The Red Raiders would move on to reach the semifinals before seeing their season end.
Leading the Rams in scoring Saturday afternoon against the Red Raiders was Chris Minton, who burned up the basket with 34 points.
Meanwhile, Tradareon Millbrook turned in a double double which included 13 points and a dozen rebounds.
In the Lady Rams’ narrow overtime loss to the Lady Troopers of Mooreville High, Asyiah Jennings paced the Gentry squad’s scoring with an eight point game.
Following close behind was Amber Curtis with a six point night of play.
