Key district games coming up for Indianola Academy next week
It was a great softball game which just did not end right for the Indianola Academy Lady Colonels.
The final result was a tough 2-0, eight-inning loss to visiting Carroll Academy at Chism Park Tuesday night.
While battling Carroll Academy to a scoreless tie through the first seven innings of play, the Lady Colonels saw the District 2-4A game slip away from them in the eighth frame.
Despite playing errorless ball for those initial seven innings, it would be three IA errors in the top of the eighth which enabled the Lady Rebels to score their runs and claim game.
Currently in the middle of a four-game gauntlet of critical District 2-4A softball games, the 7-8, 2-3 Lady Colonels continue to methodically plow through their schedule by hitting the road again next Monday and Tuesday.
While next Monday will take the Lady Colonels to Central Holmes Christian School in Lexington, next Tuesday will find the IA squad at Winona Christian School.
Game times are to be announced.
Meanwhile, this past week’s softball action yielded a pair of losses beginning with Monday evening’s 12-1 road loss to Winona Christian School.
In Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Carroll Academy, other than the errors, the Lady Colonels did almost everything else needed to win the game as they outhit the Lady Rebels 7-6 in the contest.
However, clutch hits were unavailable and IA would strand seven runners on base throughout the course of the game.
Leading the hitting attack for IA with a pair of singles apiece were Leighton Lovelace and Allie Snell.
Also contributing a single apiece to the Lady Colonels’ offensive efforts were Emma Grace Koger, Caitlyn Smith, and Addison Rambo.
In the pitcher’s circle, Koger’s strong performance yielded a tough loss after she scattered six Carroll Academy hits and struck out six batters. The junior walked three batters, although two of those were intentional.
