A 19-year-old Indianola man is in the hospital fighting for his life after being shot a total of eight times on Sunday night according to the police report.
Indianola police investigator Irish Johnson said officers responded to the 700 block of Oak Street around 7:30 p.m., and determined that the man was the victim of an apparent ambush.
Even though he was found near a residence, Johnson suspects that the shooting happened along a path that connects Oak Street with Hoover Street near the entrance to Fountain Avenue.
He said at least four shell casings were found along that path; however, they are only making assumptions based on the evidence at the present because they have not been able to speak with the victim.
The police report indicates that the injured man was taken by ambulance to the Indianola Municipal Airport and flown to Jackson where he was immediately taken into surgery. He has reportedly undergone at least three separate surgical procedures with the latest one occurring Tuesday afternoon.
Johnson said they have no motive or suspects at this time, but they are still meticulously investigating the incident. If anyone has any information about the shooting, you are urged to contact the Indianola Police Department at 662-887-1811.
