The unofficial voting results are in for several municipalities within Sunflower County who held primary elections on Tuesday.
Keeping in mind that all tallies have not been officially certified, some numbers may change.
The biggest news to come out of Tuesday’s totals was that Drew incumbent Mayor Harvey Burchfield was apparently eliminated from the race after he received 75 votes in comparison to opponent Melanie Townsend-Blackmon who received 316 votes. Townsend-Blackmon will face Jennie Lewis, who is running as an independent candidate, in June.
For the Alderman-at-Large position, Hazel Harris received 246 votes versus John Thigpen who garnered 155. Ben Alexander ran unopposed for the Ward 1 position and received 81 votes.
In the Ward 2 race, Jerome Shaw bested Evie Fountain 84 to 53. There were three persons vying for the Ward 3 seat - Bre'anna Coleman, Oliver Washington and Tara Coleman. Washington was the top vote getter with 74 and Bre'anna Coleman was second with 33. In Ward 4 Kyree Smith, who also ran unopposed had 62 votes.
As of Wednesday morning, Ruleville reportedly still had 49 affidavit votes left uncounted. They are currently reporting incumbent Mayor Shirley Edwards with a total of 388 votes and challenger Jacqueline Buckner with 329. If Edwards retains that lead she will go up against independent candidate Michael Clark in the June general election.
In the aldermen primary races, the Alderman-at-Large count shows incumbent Billy Marlow with 389 votes and challenger Ricky Scott Jr., with 318.
In the Ward 1 race, incumbent Tommy Boykins has 109 and Garland Moody 96. In Ward 2, Dorothy Jean Robinson captured 58 votes and Zacc Turner 48. The Ward 3 race pitted Marvin Hawkins against William Kindred and the results show 135 votes for Hawkins and 70 votes for Kindred.
In the Ward 4 race, Willie Robinson and James Jenkins were the top vote getters with 115 and 79 respectively. According to city officials the affidavit ballots will not be counted until this morning at 9:00 a.m.
In Moorhead, only the mayor's seat and the Ward 1 position were included in Tuesday's primary. Although three persons qualified for the race, incumbent George Holland is running as an independent. On Tuesday, Kenneth Carpenter went up against Viola Wraggs and the vote count was 115 to 95, so Carpenter will face Holland in the general election.
In the Ward 1 seat, Annette Washington picked up 51 votes to Sheila Moore’s 41. Washington will face incumbent Darrell Wright in June. In all other races, the candidates are either running unopposed or as independents.
No one other than the incumbents qualified in the town of Doddsville, so no election will be held.
Additionally, neither Inverness nor Sunflower held primaries and Indianola's primary election will be held in October.
