Some social media posts have seemingly raised hope that some form of a Gentry High Homecoming gathering will take place this month, but that apparently will not happen.
Indianola Police Chief Edrick Hall is telling Ram alumns not to make any plans to attend such an event.
Hall said whoever is spreading that information is misleading the public.
He reminds the citizens that the city of Indianola is still under an emergency declaration and any large gatherings would be a direct violation of that emergency order and is punishable by law.
Hall said he is aware of the social media posts and wants to make sure that people understand that this is not a legitimately sanctioned event.
Any such gatherings have to follow certain protocols and receive approval by the police, fire and public works departments, plus the city leaders and no such approval has been requested or granted.
Apparently referencing specific social media posts, he said any proposed activities, whether in the Church Street area or Lovelace Shopping Center area that do not meet the city's current guidelines for social distancing is strictly prohibited and he and his officers will be out in full force to enforce the provisions of the emergency proclamation and to make sure it is carried out to the letter of the law.
Hall said he wanted to make sure people are aware of this before they start making plans to come here for any large event and have their plans ruined.
Not only is the chief speaking out against any such gathering, but also the official Ram Alumni Homecoming Committee posted a statement on its Facebook page denouncing its involvement with any homecoming event.
The post stated: The Ram Alumni Homecoming Committee is not sponsoring any event for Halloween, Thanksgiving or any holiday for 2020 during the Pandemic.
Any flyers circulating have not been approved or addressed from the Committee.
Any questions concerning any current events you may contact Pres. Debra Bailey or Advisor Denise Whitley. Please be safe and stay healthy during this Pandemic.
