Police in the town of Inverness are investigating a weekend shooting that resulted in the death of 40-year-old Kita Wilson. It was the town’s first homicide of the year.
According to Chief Irish Johnson, the shooting, which happened around midnight, was the apparent result of an argument between Wilson and Anthony Dewayne Brandon, 44, 70 George Baird Road, Inverness.
Johnson said he does not know the nature of the verbal altercation.
Brandon was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and according to Johnson, his bond was set at $500,000 during his initial appearance.
Wilson was reportedly shot in the upper left shoulder area and died at the scene. The incident took place in the 400 block of Little Milton Street.
Brandon was still being held in the Sunflower County jail as of Wednesday.
