It was a bitter, but very exciting, way to end a season.
Fighting to stay alive to the very end during last Wednesday’s state semifinal match, the Indianola Academy Colonels soccer team battled for two overtime periods before falling by a 2-1 score.
When all was said and done, however, it would be Manchester Academy who would move on to the Division III State Champion game.
In this semifinal match played at Manchester Academy in Yazoo City, the Colonels found themselves deadlocked 1-1 with the Mavericks when regulation time came to an end.
It was a Hamp Judson goal which helped keep the IA hopes alive and gave the team an additional opportunity to claim the game.
However, it was not to be as it would be the Mavericks who would find the back of the Colonels’ goal in the second overtime period.
The loss moved the Colonels’ final record to a 6-7 mark and would also be the final game three seniors would play for Indianola Academy.
Those three seniors are John Clay Hong, Hamp Judson, and Reed Terrell.
