In the midst of a four-game run of 6A basketball opponents, Gentry High School will welcome Tupelo High School to its gymnasium this Friday night.
For the 12-1 Rams, this 7 p.m. contest promises a high level of play between a pair of ranked boys’ teams.
As of this writing, the Golden Wave squad comes to town owning a 9-1 record and is ranked No. 5 among all Mississippi teams per MaxPreps.
The Rams’ consistent winning ways have also earned them a No. 10 ranking in that same poll.
This night of play will open with the highly successful Lady Rams (10-3) taking on the 7-2 Lady Wave at 6 p.m.
Additional basketball action continues next Tuesday with a trip to Olive Branch High School.
Following the girls’ game which is set to begin at 6 p.m., the Rams will attempt to avenge their only loss of the season when they take the court against the Conquistadors.
In their most recent play Tuesday night, the Gentry squads began their gauntlet of 6A competition with a trip to Grenada High School.
Although the Lady Rams dropped a hard-fought 63-58 decision to the Lady Chargers, the Rams ended the night on a positive note with their 79-45 thrashing of the Grenada squad.
Chris Minton led all scorers with his 21-point performance this night while DeAndre Brisco completed his night’s play with a 14-point game.
Close behind with 13 points was LaDerrius Love to go along with Marcus Stubbs’ 11 points added to the scoreboard.
Other action this past Saturday at Greenville High saw the Lady Rams claim a 31-24 victory over the Honey Bees.
Later that night, the Rams handed the Hornets a 75-58 loss.
The Rams’ offensive onslaught was led by five players reaching double-digit scoring status.
While Minton drilled 20 points through the basket, Brisco posted 13 points on the scoreboard.
Adding 11 points apiece to the Rams’ total were Love and Stubbs. Completing this list of high scorers with 10 points was Troy Griffin.
Additional Gentry High victories were earned last Friday when West Tallahatchie High School came to town and went home winless.
After the Lady Rams claimed a 49-25 victory, the Rams destroyed the visitors by a 90-31 margin.
Minton again scored 20 points to pace the Gentry High scoring.
While Stubbs and Griffin added 13 and 10 points respectively, Brisco was credited with a dozen assists to go along with his seven points scored.
