Mary Lou Collins Foster, 63, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at her home.
Mary Lou was born March 17, 1962, in Indianola, to Eddie and Mary Syble Collins. She attended school in Indianola and graduated from Indianola Academy. Mary Lou then graduated from nursing school at Mississippi Delta Community College. From childhood, she had always dreamed of being a nurse, and she had a long and fulfilling career in nursing before retiring due to health issues. Mary Lou dedicated her life to caring for others. First, she cared for her children, then she cared for her mother for many years as her health deteriorated, and later she cared for her beloved aunt, Peggy Pickett. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She was known to many as Momma Lou. Mary Lou also enjoyed being outdoors, tending to her garden, and playing with her puppies. Her favorite time of year was Christmas – she loved everything about it, from decorating to celebrating.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bobbie Sue Bowen; and her aunt, Peggy Pickett.
She is survived by her faithful companion, David Pope; three daughters, Sarah Foster, Lindsey Jenkins, and Lacy Estes (Matthew); sister, Patricia Cole; and four grandchildren, Kaiden Jenkins, Anna Grace Jenkins, Ainsley Estes and Sadie Beth Estes.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at Burton Funeral Home in Indianola. The funeral service followed at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Greg Chamblee and the Rev. Jennifer Deaton officiating. In honor of Mary Lou, attendees were encouraged to wear colorful and happy clothing! Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cleveland Animal Shelter or Animal Medical Clinic of Cleveland.
