A daughter of the Mississippi Delta, Mary Lou Love Russell of Jackson was born Oct. 18, 1955. Heavily influenced by the work ethics of her parents (William, a civil engineer, and Frances, a teacher), Mary Lou would graduate from Indianola Academy in 1973 and go on to excel at Delta State University before finishing her physical therapy degree in Jackson at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1978. She would tirelessly serve her community helping those most in need at the Hudspeth Center for over 40 years.
To those who knew her best, Mary Lou never seemed tired. She and Russ married in 1977, and quickly had their daughter Fran, followed by sons, Trey and Will. If you were to catch her doing what she loved best, taking care of her children, you might have noticed her quiet confidence and beauty. If you were lucky enough to have her as a friend, you were guaranteed a friendship full of laughter. She was equal parts sweet and spicy, and as clever as they come. If you were lucky enough to be one of her loved ones, you would live in awe of her humility, genuine nature, and the peaceful rhythm of her marching to the beat of her own drum. She was a hard worker, a good friend, a great mom and wife, and a truly fun and selfless grandmother who will be missed by everyone.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances Love. She is survived by her husband, Russ Russell; sister, Joy Allen; brother, David Love; children, Fran Havard (Ben), Trey Russell (Kelly), and Will Russell (Lynn); grandchildren, John Rollins, Mary Frances, and Madison Havard, Liam, Louree, and Jack Russell, Piper and Emma Reese Russell, and Katelyn Stevens (Jackson). She also leaves her dearest nieces, Shay Tatum and Carrie Williams.
Visitation was held at St. James Episcopal Church, Jackson, at 10:30 a.m. Monday June 2, with Eucharist following at noon. Mary Lou was laid to rest among family on June 3 at Eagles Nest, Miss. Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church and Fondren Church.
Arrangements were under the direction of Sebrell Funeral Home, Ridgeland.
