With two Tuesday road wins over the Coahoma Community College Tigers, the Mississippi Delta Community College Lady Trojans improved their record 10-18 overall and 3-7 in MACCC play. The Lady Trojans took Game 1, 8-1, and Game 2, 11-2.
The Lady Trojans had a Thursday doubleheader at home against Southwest and will finish out March with a Tuesday, March 31, doubleheader at home against Northeast. The Ladies will kick off April with Good Friday games at home against Mississippi Gulf Coast starting at 1 p.m.
In Game 1 with Coahoma, the Lady Tigers opened the scoring in the first after Zakathryn Cameron hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. The Lady Trojans’ Shamya Williams tripled down the left field line, tying the game at one in the top of the second.
In the top of the third inning, MDCC took the lead after Allie Johnson singled down the left field line, and Ella McCain doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Callie Henderson was on the mound for Mississippi Delta. The right-handed pitcher allowed seven hits and one run over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Kimora Bouldin started the game for the Lady Tigers, giving up 11 hits and eight runs (five earned) over seven innings, striking out two and walking four.
Mississippi Delta tallied 11 hits in the game. McCain and Brooklyn Droddy each collected two hits for Mississippi Delta. Jada Kinney went 1-for-1 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Tylynn Johnson paced Mississippi Delta with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting four walks for the game. The Lady Trojans turned one double play in the game.
Lazion Riley and Cameron each collected two hits for the Lady Tigers. Cameron went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
In Game 2, MDCC outscored the Lady Tigers 11-2 thanks to eight runs in the fifth inning. Ella McCain singled, scoring one run; Brooklyn Droddy doubled, scoring one run; an error scored one run; Avona Gammage laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run; Tylynn Johnson doubled, scoring three runs; and Ava Till singled, scoring one run.
But the action began in the first inning when the Lady Trojans’ Raelynn Darby singled to left field and Droddy lined out, each scoring one run.
MDCC added another run in the top of the third on a solo home run to left field by Zyah Gunter following a 7-pitch at-bat. Morgan Woods was on the mound for Mississippi Delta and allowed 10 hits and only two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out none and walking two. Taylor Shingler stepped into the circle first for the Lady Tigers but surrendered 12 hits and 11 runs (eight earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking one.
MDCC had 12 hits in the game. Darby, Johnson, Gunter, and Droddy each collected two hits for the Lady Trojans. Johnson also led Mississippi Delta with three RBIs. The leadoff hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Mississippi Delta turned two double plays in the game.
Kaylee Ables, Zakathryn Cameron, Laney Wallace, and Kimora Bouldin each collected two hits for the Lady Tigers. Ables and Adrianna Catchings were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Lady Tigers.
