At 10-28 overall and 3-17 in the MACCC, the Mississippi Delta Community College Lady Trojans softball team has six doubleheaders left in the season. They stepped out of conference to take on Kilgore College this past Thursday (not covered due to press time) and travel to Pearl River on Saturday for a noon and 2 p.m. doubleheader. The Lady Trojans dropped a doubleheader to Holmes on Tuesday, 9-1 and 7-4.
In Game 2, the Lady Trojans had a lead but couldn’t hold onto it before falling 7-4. Ella McCain drove in four runners in the loss. The right-handed hitter went 2-2 on the day. The Lady Trojans scored four runs in the top of the fourth but Holmes cut the lead when they scored three runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to left field by Allie Henderson.
Holmes took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Lauren Frazier singled, scoring one run, and Kamiyah Stephens homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Morgan Woods started in the circle for Mississippi Delta and surrendered 10 hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out one and walking one. Avery Smith stepped in the circle first for Holmes and gave up three hits and four runs over four innings, striking out two and walking two.
Stephens and Miley Billie each collected two hits for Holmes. Henderson and Stephens each drove in three runs for Holmes.
In Game 1, Holmes scored in the first three innings with two, five and one run before MDCC could put up their lone run in the top of the fourth. Holmes added one more in the fifth for the 9-1 win.
Callie Henderson led things off in the circle for Mississippi Delta but gave up seven hits and eight runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out none and walking one. Josie Azlin stepped in the circle first for Holmes, holding the Lady Trojans to just one hit and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking five.
Rebecca Satsky led the Lady Trojans with one run batted in. Zyah Gunter went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Mississippi Delta in hits and stole two bases. Mississippi Delta amassing five walks for the game and ran wild on the base paths, amassing three stolen bases for the game but could only plate one run.
