Normally, it’s an educational celebration of all things farming but this year’s Delta Ag Expo has a new temporary location.
The Wednesday Feb. 17 event will be held at the Capps Building at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville from 9 a.m. to noon and will feature plenty of speakers and education.
With COVID restrictions, the event has been shortened and will offer a virtual viewing arm for those who cannot attend the event. Construction work at the normal venue in Cleveland has moved the annual affair to Stoneville.
Bolivar County Extension Agent Zachary Gaylor is putting together his first Delta Ag Expo as this is his first year serving the county.
“Due to COVID-19 concerns and ongoing renovations at the Expo building in Cleveland the Ag Expo will be in a different format than usual,” Gaylor explained. “The Expo format is to be an educational seminar.”
The format for this year’s show will be limited to educational seminars presented by extension specialists, providing the latest technical information relating to agricultural crops grown in the Delta and surrounding area.
“There will be no exhibitors at this year's Expo. These sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m.,” he said. “Due to COVID restrictions, seating capacity will be limited to the first 50 people to sign up via an internet link. After that, anyone who wishes to, can join via Zoom.”
The link for registration will be posted on the Delta Ag Website, www.deltaagexpo.com. The Agenda of Topics and Speakers for this year’s events includes:
8:30 Introduction
8:35 Soybean Production – Dr. Trent Irby
9:10 Corn Production – Dr. Erick Larson
9:45 Cotton Production - Dr. Brian Pieralisi
10:20 Irrigation – Dr. Drew Gholson
10:55 Weed Management – Dr. Jason Bond
11:30 Diseases – Dr. Tom Allen
12:05 Insect Pests - Drs. Crow, Catchot, Gore, and Cook
“We look forward to seeing you in-person or virtually on February 17 and in-person in January 2022,” Gaylor said.
