An Indianola man is behind bars and charged with aggravated assault after a Saturday evening incident left a 40-year-old Hampton Street woman in need of serious medical attention.
Johnny Israel, 61, 408 Hannah Ave., was arrested and booked into the Sunflower County jail on Monday and charged with aggravated domestic violence in relation to the alleged assault.
According to police documents, at around 10:53 p.m., on Saturday, an officer that was on patrol in the 200 block of Front Street Extended spotted an individual who was attempting to assist a woman who was lying on the ground.
Sgt. Regina Simpson said the officer discovered that the woman had suffered a stab wound to the left side of her abdomen and as a result, she was subsequently airlifted to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
As of Tuesday morning, the woman was still hospitalized and undergoing medical treatment. And her alleged assailant was still in the Sunflower County jail awaiting bond, his initial appearance is reportedly scheduled for sometime today.
In an unrelated matter,
Simpson said, Chad Allen Causey, 25, 135 Beaverdam Road was arrested and charged with contempt of court and burglary of a commercial building reportedly in connection with the break-in at the Donald Oaks Storage Company and possibly another business.
Simpson said an arrest warrant has also been issued for another individual in relation to that matter, but she declined to name him pending his capture.
The stolen items include a television set, several tire rims, a Hobart welder and a Polaris side-by-side UTV.
