A gunshot wound to the back of the head while driving is the apparent cause of a pickup truck crashing into a house in the 100 block of Janet Davis Circle.
On the morning of January 19, officers found Ladelwyn Cole, 20, an Indianola man, sitting in the truck after he lost control of the vehicle, left the street, crossed a nearby yard and crashed into the north side bedroom of a brick home at 103 Janet Davis Circle.
According to Indianola Police Chief Edrick Hall, three men were in the truck at the time of the impact. He said witnesses’ accounts of the incident and video footage from nearby homes showed that two men ran from the truck once the vehicle came to a stop in the wall of the home.
As a result, warrants for aggravated assault were issued for Darseantese Dean, 21, and Phidaridus Johnson, 20, A/K/A Poke-e-mon, both of Indianola. Hall said Dean is currently in custody at the Sunflower County jail, but they are still looking for Johnson.
Cole was taken from the scene by ambulance and airlifted to Jackson where he is reportedly still in the hospital listed in critical condition.
Hall said, “We do not have an apparent motive at this time. We do know that all three parties knew each other, no one was being held against their will or anything like that. We don’t suspect any other criminal activity was tied to it. So, we have no reason to believe they were hostile to each other.”
Hall said the case is still under investigation until they can talk to Johnson, so he is asking Johnson to turn himself in. Hall said they were told that he would turn himself in, but as of Tuesday afternoon, he had not.
If anyone knows of his whereabouts, they should encourage him to surrender. Or, they can call the Indianola police or Crime Stoppers.
Although the homeowner was home at the time of the crash, no one else was reported as injured. She was said to be in a front portion of the house and was uninjured.
