Dr. Mehul Dixit is facing charges in Hinds County for sexual battery and fondling of pediatric patients at UMMC.
The Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure has temporarily suspended the license of Dr. Mehul Dixit and will hold a hearing to determine if the physician is to be prohibited from the practice of medicine pending the outcome of the hearing.
Dixit has been summoned to appear before the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure on May 18, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., to answer the charges filed against him which include allegations of violating professional boundaries with patients, committing a sexual assault on a patient, and by virtue of said violations, unprofessional conduct, which includes dishonorable or unethical conduct likely to deceive, defraud or harm the public.
On Thursday, deputies with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department arrested Dixit and charged him with two counts of sexual battery or fondling of a vulnerable person. The charges include the fondling of three pediatric patients.
According to the order of temporary suspension, the Medical Licensure Board’s Investigative Staff was notified of an ongoing investigation involving the alleged physician sexual misconduct during a physical examination of a pediatric patient at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson on or about February 27, 2023.
Based on that information, the Medical Licensure Board’s Investigative Staff opened a Board investigation into Dixit’s practice of medicine and conduct as a physician.
“At this time, Investigative Staff has collected and developed evidence of three different occurrences of physician sexual misconduct committed by Licensee,” the Board’s order states.
One alleged incident occurred during a physical examination of a pediatric patient in Florida in 2006. The other two alleged similar incidents occurred at UMMC in 2013 and then in February of this year.
The Medical Licensure Board states that they have determined that the evidence in their possession indicates that Dixit’s continued practice of medicine “would constitute an immediate danger to public health and safety.”
Dixit has been terminated by UMMC.
