State retirement
I echo the message in Gina Beasley’s letter to the editor regarding Mississippi’s Public Employees’ Retirement System (“Kalich’s suggestions on PERS aren’t good,” March 28).
This pension fund was stable according to the previous PERS director, and I think she did a great job keeping the members informed as to the current and future stability of the plan.
In my opinion, when elected officials want to make changes to something even if it’s working fine, they use the media, such as the Commonwealth, to have the public in a panic for their own interests.

Dead pine trees
After the high winds last week and storm season upon us, I am concerned about all of the large dead pine trees throughout Greenwood. I think it would be prudent to preemptively remove them before they fall and damage property and power lines, and possibly kill someone!
Why doesn’t the city come up with an ordinance to legally have the trees removed and assess the property owner if they won’t remove them voluntarily?
Midway building
Regarding the article “Hearing on building’s demolition set April 2” (March 21):
Tear the whole building down and make off-the-street parking.
