The Nation's Weather for Saturday, December 31, 2022
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
Much of the eastern third of the nation can expect a wet end
to the year tomorrow. The exception will be northern New
England, but rain is also expected there for any New Year's
Eve festivities by the evening. In Alabama, Georgia and
northern and central Florida, thunder can accompany the
rain. However, no severe weather is expected. The most
impactful storm will affect the West. Heavy rain can cause
flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas in the San
Joaquin Valley of California. Rain will fall across much of
the Golden State. Warm air will cause snow to be restricted
to the highest peaks of the Sierra, where several feet of
snow can fall at elevations above 8,000 feet. The heaviest
rain will move in Southern California at night, where
flooding can occur on streets and in poor drainage areas.
