NATIONAL SUMMARY
Thunderstorms from Michigan to Massachusetts can generate
flooding downpours, hail and gusty winds today. Afternoon
and evening thunderstorms in the northern Plains can produce
flash flooding, hail and localized damaging wind gusts.
There can be an isolated tornado or two in the strongest
storms. Meanwhile, the air will be very hot across the
Tennessee Valley, southern Ohio Valley and the mid-Atlantic.
The Southeast and Gulf coasts will be warm and very humid
with a spotty afternoon thunderstorm. Elsewhere, it will be
mainly dry across the West, except in Arizona and New
Mexico, where there can be a gusty afternoon thunderstorm.
Heat will expand from the California valleys into the Great
Basin. Farther to the north, it will be pleasant across the
Northwest, with a steady breeze in the northern Rockies.
