The Nation's Weather for Thursday, September 26, 2024
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
Helene will barrel toward the Gulf Coast tomorrow, making
landfall during the evening around the Florida Big Bend.
Destructive winds, life-threatening flooding and storm surge
are expected near the landfall point. Periods of rain will
spread as far northward as central Tennessee during the
afternoon, with showers reaching into Kentucky. Elsewhere,
gusty winds can accompany downpours in southeastern New
England. Farther to the northwest, small hail will also be a
risk in northern and central portions of Vermont and New
Hampshire and in western Maine. A few showers will begin to
come ashore in northwestern Washington state. Much of the
rest of the nation will be free from precipitation, but
record-challenging heat will bake portions of the Desert
Southwest and the northern High Plains.
