The Nation's Weather for Sunday, January 5, 2025
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
A massive winter storm can bring thunderstorms from eastern
Texas into the Mississippi River Valley tomorrow that can
potentially bring localized damaging winds, hail and
isolated tornadoes; especially in Louisiana and western
Mississippi. Freezing rain can produce ice accretion in
central into southeastern Missouri and southern Illinois
into Kentucky. Ice will weigh down trees and power lines,
leading to widespread outages in those areas; roads can also
be dangerously slippery and delays are expected. Just to the
north, snow and sleet can mix. Straight snow can fall from
central Indiana back through Illinois into northern Missouri
and a decent portion of the Plains; blizzard conditions are
expected in much of central and eastern Kansas which can
lead to blowing snow and slippery roads.
