An Indianola man charged in the June 12 shooting death of D’Angelo Davis was in Municipal Court on Tuesday and was handed a $300,000 bond in connection with the youth’s death and aggravated assault of another man.
Stephon Snipes 20, 200 Maybelle Street had previously waived his rights and Judge Kuykendall Murry levied a $200,000 bond for the murder charge and a $100,000 bond for the aggravated assault.
According to Indianola police, the shooting incident took place on June 12 around 8 p.m., when a man, who was later identified as Snipes, was reportedly standing in the street on Brantley Circle and fired into a vehicle hitting two of the occupants.
The initial information provided by police said Davis and another man were injured in the gunfire. The man reportedly drove himself and Davis to South Sunflower County Hospital where Davis was later pronounced dead. The other victim was transferred to a Jackson area hospital with a gunshot wound to his back.
Chief Edrick Hall said at the time that the shooting was possibly in retaliation for another shooting incident, but no further details were given. Snipes turned himself in to law enforcement officers on June 17. His case was assigned to a public defender, Attorney Neysha Sanders of Greenwood.
