The August 6 Democratic Primary is just over a month away and the Sunflower County Circuit Clerk’s office is gearing up for the upcoming election season.
Absentee voting began on Monday and registered voters who plan to vote absentee have until Saturday, August 3 at noon to vote in the Circuit Clerk’s office.
Circuit Clerk Carolyn Hamilton said her office will be open Saturday, July 27 and Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. until noon to accommodate the voters who are casting their ballots using the absentee process.
Prospective absentee voters can also call the circuit clerk’s office to request an absentee ballot; however, Hamilton suggests doing so as quickly as possible since it is a two-step process whereby an application is mailed out and must be completed and returned to her office before a ballot is mailed.
The application and ballot cannot be mailed at the same time, and the request can only be made by the voter or the immediate family member of the voter, she said.
The registration deadline for voters who plan to cast their ballot in the upcoming election is Monday, July 8 at 5 p.m.
However, voter registration forms sent by mail will be accepted IF they are postmarked by the Monday, July 8 date.
Hamilton said the office will also be open Saturday, July 6 from 8 a.m. until noon for registering to vote only, no absentee voting will be allowed on that day.
