A one-vehicle accident on US 49 claimed the life of two Indianola parents early Sunday morning.
According to a press release from Sgt. Ronald Shive, Public Affairs Division, Mississippi Highway Patrol, around 1:30 a.m., while traveling northbound on the highway, Richard Smith 53, of Indianola evidently lost control of his 2003 Ford Expedition before overturning into a field east of the northbound lane.
Both he and passenger, Chandra D. Jennings 39, of Indianola were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Three young children were in the back seat at the time of the accident. All three were taken to Kings Daughters Hospital in Yazoo City where they were treated for minor injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
